Empress Sisi (Vicky Krieps) battles her corsets and other repressions
On her 40th birthday, Austrian empress Sisi is shoved aside like the 'older woman' she now is. Sisi is restless, indulging in luxuries, but also haunted by loneliness. She decides to battle the literal and metaphorical corset that her role demands of her. As the palace walls come closing in, she desperately tries to find her way out.
For her role as Sisi, Vicky Krieps was rightfully awarded the prize for best acting achievement at the Cannes 2022 Un Certain Regard selection.
