What does it mean to have to leave your home and build a new life elsewhere? XANUUN (Somali for “pain”) offers a confronting look at power, heritage, and identity, bringing to life the pain and resilience of young migrants.
About XANUUN
In a raw mix of dance, music, and spoken word, this performance tells the stories of Somali youth who migrated through the Netherlands to the United Kingdom. In search of safety, they encountered violence and exclusion—a struggle fought deeply within, yet also visible and tangible in their movements.
With a cast of five energetic performers, XANUUN explores the impact of words and power. The performance is driven by the raw beats of Grime and Trap, music styles that embody the voice of the streets and resistance in British culture.
There is no spoken dialogue in this performance.
