With the wordless Food, Austrian theatre maker Michael Zandl, together with four circus artists, confronts endless human consumption. Through object manipulation, acrobatics, illusion theatre, edible props, and a subtle sense of humor, Zandl creates an absurd world where the boundaries between what is edible and inedible begin to blur.
About Food
Together with a troupe of four circus performers, Michael Zandl’s Food exposes how endlessly we humans consume—and what that does to the world around us. Like a swarm of locusts devouring everything in its path, humanity sweeps across the planet.
In Food, the Austrian theatre-maker reveals a strange landscape of over-consumption, where it is sometimes no longer clear what is edible and what is not. The show fuses object manipulation, acrobatics, and illusion theatre, combining them with powerful physical storytelling and real, edible props. Food is an immersive, wordless circus performance with a subtle sense of humour.
