THURSDAY 11 DECEMBER: INTRODUCTION, FOLLOW-UP DISCUSSION AND DJ IN SCHUURCAFÉ

On Thursday December 11th, in celebration of Purple Friday (Paarse Vrijdag, 12 december), Schuur and Nieuwe Vide invite you to another edition of The Queer Image!

Nieuwe Vide will introduce the film, after which Liane Paldi and May Yoni Okke Van Loenen will join the audience for a post-screening discussion. The evening continues in the Schuurcafé, starting with a performance from drag king PowerPussBoi followed by DJ Pyn to set the atmosphere.

PowerPussBoi, born within the warm walls of Club Church into the drag family of The House of Løstbois and extended family of the House of Hopelezz, is a campy reflection of societies view of gender ideals. Dolls represent gender perfection but with male dolls they are so hyper masculine that it becomes adorable or cute, which then again is more of a feminine trait. PowerPussBoi represents this full circle of gender expression. But don’t get fooled by the cute eyes, as they will turn to fire when PowerPussBoi starts to dance.

About the House of Hopelezz:
As the oldest drag house in the Netherlands, now residents of the legendary Club Church in Amsterdam, The House of Hopelezz is home to an eclectic family of drag queens, drag kings, burlesque performers, artists, and queer misfits from around the world. Historically, drag houses provided refuge to homeless queer youth; today, House of Hopelezz continues this legacy in spirit. Its members may not live together, but they unite as a chosen family by supporting, uplifting, and creating powerful queer culture together.
