Kiki is an American–Swedish documentary that follows seven young LGBTQ people of color in New York’s vibrant Kiki scene over the course of four years. Through their dazzling Kiki ball performances and their personal stories, the film explores themes of homelessness, illness, prejudice, activism, chosen family, and empowered gender expression.

On Thursday December 11th, in celebration of Purple Friday (Paarse Vrijdag, 12 december), Schuur and Nieuwe Vide invite you to another edition of The Queer Image!
Nieuwe Vide will introduce the film, after which Liane Paldi, Taka Taka, and Aryelle Freeman from the House of Hopelezz will join the audience for a post-screening discussion. The conversation continues afterward in the Schuurcafé, while DJ Pyn sets the atmosphere.

As the oldest drag house in the Netherlands, now residents of the legendary Club Church in Amsterdam, The House of Hopelezz is home to an eclectic family of drag queens, drag kings, burlesque performers, artists, and queer misfits from around the world. Historically, drag houses provided refuge to homeless queer youth; today, House of Hopelezz continues this legacy in spirit. Its members may not live together, but they unite as a chosen family by supporting, uplifting, and creating powerful queer culture together.
