Jimpa is a sensitive and authentic drama about queer identity, parenthood, and the complex dynamics between three generations. In this semi-autobiographical film, filmmaker Sophie Hyde (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, 52 Tuesdays) explores both the ties we are born into and the families we choose. Starring Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Father) and John Lithgow (Conclave, The Crown).

Filmmaker Hannah (Olivia Colman) travels to Amsterdam with her non-binary teenager, Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde), to visit her father, Jim (John Lithgow). Frances affectionately calls him “Jimpa” and hopes to stay with him for a year. This forces Hannah to confront her own sense of parenthood and responsibility. Jim, meanwhile, encourages Frances to explore queer life in Amsterdam. Yet he cannot escape the realization that the freedom he sought when he moved to Amsterdam is not the same as the freedom experienced by his grandchild.

Jimpa was selected for both the Sundance Film Festival and the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Alongside the international stars, the film features Dutch actors Hans Kesting, Romana Vrede, and Zoë Love Smith.
