About the dance performance RAIZ
In this personal solo performance, choreographer Samir Calixto traces the path from his Brazilian roots to where he stands today. The title Raiz—Portuguese for “root”—refers to the deep-rooted connection with his heritage. Less known is that Calixto weaves links to his Brazilian background into all of his productions. As a child, he took part in Afro-Brazilian rituals where music and movement brought people into contact with their deepest origins. This rich tradition of rhythms and sounds, combined with a sense of urgency, forms the source of inspiration for this powerful and intimate performance.
