In Play, we return to the child within us — to games, dance, and imagination. We build our own world, alongside the real one. Sometimes that world of fantasy is comforting; other times, it reveals what is difficult. Play asks important questions: Do we use imagination to cope with pain or stress? And how does creativity help us navigate life?
About the dance performance Play
A world of our own that exists alongside the real one, with all its sometimes confronting reality. Play questions to what extent this world of imagination serves as a coping mechanism for us all and pays tribute to the power of imagination in processing pain, stress, or sorrow.
Ann Van den Broek explores the points where fantasy and reality collide, and the friction that arises from that encounter—whether in our personal lives, our own bubbles, or our collective experience. Play is a multidisciplinary performance featuring strong, distinctive performers. As in much of Ann Van den Broek’s recent work, the piece moves between performance and dance, using live video to bring the audience even closer to the dancers.
