In PISS POOL, you enter a TikTok house for people over sixty. Wet, warm. The space looks like a wellness center: hot tubs, massage chairs, a beauty corner for skincare routines, sugar-free health drinks, and plenty of screens.
About the theatre performance PISS POOL
A group of older women film themselves as they engage in hyper-modern self-renewal rituals led by an online influencer. The surveillance-style video setup distorts the recorded reality and plays with time. In this exhausting hall of mirrors, everyone appears to be in the prime of their life, yet no one truly owns her body.
PISS POOL (named after the artwork by Samantha Nye) explores the phenomenon of ageism from a feminist perspective. In BVDS’s signature style—combining digital avatars with real bodies—this theatrical video installation reveals how the wellness industry pressures women to stay young, slim, and healthy. Self-care no longer seems about caring for each other, but about personal responsibility. Together with artist Lisa Schamlé, BVDS creates an alienating world where women literally and figuratively take back time.
