In FAREWELL, performance artist Perry Gits and director Dionne Verwey take you on a personal and sensory journey through life, death, and the rituals that shape us. The performance explores how different cultures approach farewell and how traditions can shift when they are reimagined. You are invited to reflect on what you carry forward and what you let go.
About theatre performance FAREWELL
FAREWELL is inspired by the richness of Ghanaian funeral traditions and translates that energy into a new theatrical language. The audience steps into an immersive environment where earth, light, and sound merge. Perry moves across a Claywalk of clay and soil, a path that feels like a passage from one state to another. Live music and electronic soundscapes respond to his movement, making time, memory, and transformation almost tangible.
Before entering the performance, you visit a pop-up exhibition by Museum Tot Zover about personal rituals around life and death. The performance then unfolds as an intimate ritual that blends fashion, club culture, spirituality, and dance. The audience is invited to wear red and black, colors that reference Ghanaian traditions in which they express grief, intensity, and connection. FAREWELL becomes both an ode to ancestry and a search for new ways of saying goodbye.

Dionne Verwey
Dionne Verwey is a director, actor, presenter, and creator with a deep love for stories that resonate. She works at the intersection of art and society, with projects that shift perspective. Dionne has received the Top Naeff Prize and the Joop Mulder Plak and has twice been nominated for the Colombina.
Perry Gits
Perry Gits is a performance artist and dancer. He has worked in theater and musical productions, is part of the first generation of the Dutch ballroom community, and is active in the Amsterdam club scene as a booker and programmer. His energetic and spiritual style explores identity, transformation, and ritual. He received both the Golden Cricket Award and the North Holland Cultural Prize for his work.
