Some women are not recorded in history books. They were given no statues, no honorary titles. They cared, they waited, they endured. And yet something of them has been passed on, from generation to generation, in the way you care, endure, and keep going.
About the dance performance Draagkracht
They carried history, without history carrying them. They were given no statues or honorary titles. Women from Indonesia, the Moluccas and former Dutch East Indies who endured, survived, and passed things on. Women whose stories were deliberately kept out of historical records for generations. Women who were indispensable in times of war, colonisation and resistance. They cared, fought, built, and yet remained unnamed. They carried what was imposed on them, what they chose to carry, what they had no choice but to carry.
The stage on which they are truly centred has barely existed for a long time. Draagkracht is an intimate dance performance that gives them that space, without detours. In bodies that know what words cannot express.
You don’t need to know history to recognise it.
