About The Monster Trilogy
In The Monster Trilogy, five exceptional performers mirror three world-famous horror icons: Frankenstein, Dracula and Hyde. They delve deep into the inner worlds of those we fear and reject – but whom we may resemble more than we care to admit. This whirlwind of horror, humour and music (composed by Cassie Kinoshi) challenges you to look at yourself and others through the eyes of the outsider. What do the outcasts, these ‘monsters’, actually want to tell us about their world?
The Monster Trilogy is a work by legendary theatre-maker, writer and performer Michael Matthews (1958–1996) that in the hands of director Nita Kersten transforms into a theatrical nightclub, a gothic concert, a horror opera and a declaration of love to everyone who has ever felt like an outsider or fallen through the cracks of our modern society. All of that in a single performance.
All performances are surtitled in both Dutch and English.

In The Monster Trilogy, Michael Matthews took three iconic gothic figures from the 19th century as his starting point. He gave each of them their own part of the trilogy, transforming them into modern myths: a lonely monster yearning for love, and an AIDS-infected pizza delivery man in Dracula’s castle. Forget everything you think you know about monsters, because this utterly spellbinding performance shows you that the outsider, the monster, lives within each and every one of us. You just have to dare to see it.
