In the heart of a botanical garden in a medieval university town in Germany stands a gigantic ginkgo tree. This silent witness has been observing multiple human lives for over a century.
In 1908, Grete becomes the first female student at her German university. Unfazed, she discovers her calling—not in biology, but in photography. Sixty-four years later, Hannes falls in love with a botany student. While he has to monitor a project for her thesis, he begins a rather unusual relationship—with a geranium. And finally, during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns, neuroscientist Tony from Hong Kong becomes stranded in the deserted university residences. We follow their attempts at connection as they are transformed by the mysterious power of nature.
