No Good Men — English subs

Afghanistan, 2021, shortly before the Taliban return to power. Naru, the only female camera operator at Kabul’s leading television station, struggles to retain custody of her three-year-old son.

Since leaving her unfaithful husband, Naru—like most Afghan women—has become convinced that there are no good men in her country. So she is surprised when Qodrat, Kabul TV’s leading journalist, offers her a career opportunity. As they crisscross the city together, reporting on the final days of freedom, sparks begin to fly between them, and Naru starts to question her beliefs. Could there actually be a good man out there after all?

With No Good Men, director, screenwriter, and lead actress Shahrbanoo Sadat aims to present a different, more authentic portrait of Afghanistan, infused with humor and romance. No Good Men opened the most recent Berlin International Film Festival.
