A Russian teacher secretly documents his small town school's transformation into a war recruitment center during the Ukraine invasion, revealing the ethical dilemmas educators face amid propaganda and militarization.

As Russia launches its large-scale invasion of Ukraine, elementary schools are being turned into recruitment centers for the army. A courageous teacher faces an ethical dilemma: should he cooperate with a system characterized by propaganda and violence? He decides to go undercover and film what is really happening at his school.

Our host of the evening, Kiriko Mechanicus (more about Kiriko below), will introduce the film to us. Afterwards we move to the café to catch up, meet up, play a game, have a drink (and some snacks on the house :-)).. You name it. We look forward to it!

About Kiriko Mechanicus

About Kiriko Mechanicus

Kiriko Mechanicus (she/​her, 1995), also known as Kiri Academy, is an Amsterdam-based documentary filmmaker, writer of fiction and non-fiction, culinary writer, podcaster and part-time partygirl. Her graduation film A TOMATO TRAGEDY’ (2023) was selected for the Nederlands Film Festival and won the Filmfonds Wildcard prize. She directs music videos, short docu­men­ta­ries, expe­ri­mental videos and babbles about cinema endlessly (publicly). Kiriko writes for various literary publi­ca­tions such as Vice magazine or Hard/​/​Hoofd. She was once even asked to write a poem for the visit of Italian president Mattarella at the 30-year anniversary of the European Union in the Netherlands. Occa­si­o­nally, miss Mechanicus appears on the tellie or in a news-paper. She says yes to everything, especially things that she hasn’t done before.
