Maspalomas — English subs

Maspalomas is a heartwarming film by directors Jose Mari Goenaga and Aitor Arregi about growing older and staying true to yourself. What do you do when you unexpectedly have to return to the life you left behind years ago?

Vicente, an older gay man, has to return from Maspalomas, on Gran Canaria, to San Sebastián. He needs care, and his daughter doesn’t know what to do with him. Forced to leave the nightlife behind, he moves into a care home. The contrast with the sun-drenched freedom and openness of Maspalomas could hardly be greater. Once there, Vicente decides to go back into the closet. But is that really necessary?

Maspalomas became a sensation in Spain. Actor José Ramón Soroiz won Best Actor twice: first after the film’s world premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, and later at the Goya Awards, Spain’s equivalent of the Oscars.
