New restoration of the film classic about resistance fighter Hannie Schaft (Renée Soutendijk). She joins a group that carries out attacks on collaborators.

Ben Verbong based the film on the story of the young Haarlem student Hannie Schaft, who, during the World War II, abandons her law studies to put her ideals and sense of justice into practice by joining the resistance. Hannie Schaft is arrested a month before the liberation and executed.

The digital restoration was carried out by STORM (Jack Kuipers) under the supervision of Theo van de Sande, the film’s cinematographer. As a starting point, a 4K scan of the original camera negative from the collection of Eye Filmmuseumwas used. After years of searching, Ben Verbong rediscovered the original negative—long thought lost—in 2025. “There were rumors it had been destroyed, but I couldn’t believe that,” he told L1. Following a tip, Verbong eventually learned that the negative had been sitting in a Dutch warehouse all along. It was then transferred to Eye and scanned in 4K for the restoration.
