Hen — English subs

With great power comes great responsibility. But what if the heroine is a chicken? A fairy tale that is as absurd as it is heartbreaking, in which you can’t help but root for its clucking protagonist.

The film Hen shows that humour and hope can be found anywhere. Director György Pálfi broadens our perspective on the world by presenting it through the eyes of a chicken. After escaping from a poultry farm, a hen finds shelter in the courtyard of a restaurant. There, she discovers love, challenges the pecking order and fights to protect her eggs from a greedy owner. Her funny yet moving quest for motherhood reflects the difficult compromises and quiet struggles of human existence.

Hen was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received an honourable mention. Pálfi drew inspiration from classical Greek tragedies, in which the fate of an individual reveals universal questions about the human condition.
