Expat Cinema: The Worst Person in the World

The new film by Joachim Trier about 30-year-old Julie, who faces down a new decade, grapples with existentialism, her capricious career plans, fear of commitment, and choosing between two love interests

The Worst Person In The World chronicles four years in the life of Julie, a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is.

Joachim Trier (1974) is an internationally celebrated director and screenwriter. Some of his critically acclaimed and award-winning films Are Oslo, August 31st (2011), Louder Than Bombs (2015) And Thelma (2017), all co-written with Eskil Vogt. He has been invited to and won awards at many international film festivals. This new film is his fifth feature and was selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2021 where lead actress Renate Reinsve won the prize for Best Actress.
