Director Jafar Panahi confronts himself with his inablilty to leave his homeland Iran.
In two parallel love stories, two couples are forced to deal with the power structures they are embedded in. Meanwhile, Panahi becomes unwillingly involved in a political incident in their villaged when asked to share a picture of forbidden lovers. Matters escalate quickly, underlining how easily seemingly innocent deeds may have extreme consequences. In the midst of these challenges the director reflects on his own inability to leave his homeland Iran. It's not as simple as just crossing an invisible border, somewhere on a hill, in the middle of the night.
