Expat Cinema: Mi país imaginario

A report of Chile's unexpected 2019 revolution

Documentary filmmaker Patricio Guzmán returns to Chile to report on the country's unexpected revolution which started in October 2019. Guzmán was forced to leave the country after the failed revolution of 1973, when it was suffering under a dictatorship. In this new age, there is hope for a just society. It is the raising of subway ticket prices which leads to protests in Santiago in October 2019. One and a half million people took to the streets, not only protesting the price hike but also against failing democracy, education and healthcare. Mostly women take charge when it comes to writing a new constitution and leaving behind the dictatorship once and for all.
