Film – Hlynur Pálmason

Expat Cinema: Godland

Godland is an impressive film about discovering a new world. The epic yet also dryly funny drama by the director of A White, White Day is a true festival hit.

In the late 19th century, the young Danish priest Lucas is sent off to Iceland, one of the Danish empire's last colonies. His mission: keeping an eye out on the building of a new church and to photograph the parishioners. Camera on his back, our priest embarks on a joruney that is not without challenges. The locals aren't exactly open to the idea of being subjugated and refuse to communicate clearly. Lucas arrives at his destination but the further into the wilderness he gets, the more he loses his morals and himself.
