For a brief moment, Blue Velvet seems to take place in a neatly raked suburb, but soon we descend into an anything but neat underworld full of sex and violence.
It all begins with a severed ear on a lawn. Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) is the finder and through this lurid object comes into contact with an unstable nightclub singer (Isabella Rosselini) and a drug-addicted, life-threatening sadist (Dennis Hopper). With Blue Velvet, Lynch took his first steps toward the legendary series Twin Peaks, which would be released a few years later.
