A Family — English subs

Teenagers Eli and Nina each try in their own way to stay afloat when their parents’ marriage — played by Carice van Houten and Pieter Embrechts — ends in a bitter divorce.

Told from the children’s perspective, A Family is a unique family drama. The lives of Eli (14) and Nina (16) seem carefree. Eli is part of his swim team’s selection squad, and Nina is in love with her girlfriend Steffie. When Maria and Jacob separate, the children find themselves caught between both parents. In the battle over shared custody and the arguments that follow, Eli and Nina are forced to make choices they do not want to make.

For the screenings of Joe Speedboot and A Family with English subtitles, we are offering a special addition to the programme in collaboration with Double Dutch. On April 5 and 12, visitors who are learning Dutch will receive a Dutch & Film handout to help them get more out of the film experience and better understand the language.

After the screening, you are warmly invited to join us in the café, where two participants from the Taalhuis will be present for an informal conversation about the film. A great opportunity to practise your Dutch and connect with fellow film lovers.
